Well, if that wasn't a shock, I don't know what is. Though I do suppose that I really shouldn't have been as shocked as I was; I was gone for (almost) a month with little log-on. I'm back now though (sorta), and I've got news -- news of a technical nature (as always).

First of all, I'm writing this from my frankencompy, which is /finally/ up and running Apache2 web server, BIND DNS, IMAP/POP3, FTP, PHP, MySQL, SSH, AND Samba on an Ubuntu Linux server boot. >:3 For those of you who don't really understand (or care), it means that it kicks serious ass. Okay, well, I mean the machine's not that great, but I'm now getting upgrades. I'm looking at (possibly) a new system board, greater RAM, another HDD (which I would RAID with my two others), processor upgrade to 3 GHz, and (zOMG) a good graphics card. Currently, I'm running a little bit of a bastardization of an eight year old computer with 512 MB RAM but 1.7 GHz Pentium 4 and some stone-age nVidia (it's not even a GeForce) that the server is managing on right now. The only reason I'm able to get any of these parts is because I have a kindly tech director at my school who has offered to sell them to me at a fair rate. ~:3 Although, they also added my IP to the school filter, so I have no chance whatsoever of accessing the server at school. Oh! But, (thanks to that kindly tech director again) I've figured out how to let my server run 24/7 on a live connection. The router we've got (terminally, thanks to Time Warner) only has four ports, and they're all being used, limiting me to only one wired connection for all of my endeavors (hardly sufficient). He told me all I had to do was use a switch (which I have) to uplink to the router, and it would auto-config to allow me to use additional ports on the switch (which I had assumed would not work without extremely bothersome subnet forwarding, and, therefore, had not even bothered dealing with in that fashion previously). Either way, I'm going to go try doing that now, so if you don't hear from me for a while, I've probably electrocuted myself or something because I'm retarded. ~:3
